SAMSUNG GAINING SUPREMACY – Sara at Mobile Bloom has focused on a subject in the Android News area that we have mentioned previously and that is the rise and rise of Samsung – in previous posts we looked at the whispering campaign (no proof) that suggests Samsung may be ‘doing its own thing’ and moving away from Android – but there is no solid evidence that this is the case. See the results which show Samsung’s supremacy below.

Samsung Captures One Third Of Entire Smartphone Market As iPhones Lag

The mobile marketplace has seen the explosion of the Android operating system the past year. And the smartphone marketplace has seen Samsung ride a tidal wave of popularity on the backs of the Galaxy S II, the Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note II smartphones the past year. For several quarters Samsung has been announcing record profits and receipts for their smartphone manufacturing arm, and the first quarter of 2013 was certainly a sweet one for the Korean-based consumer electronics manufacturer.

Q1 2013 saw Samsung Electronics Company capture a full one third of the smartphone market globally. That same quarter showed Apple Incorporated post its slowest iPhone pace since the iconic handset launched in 2007, and this research was just this week released to the World Wide Web by Strategy Analytics. Samsung smartphone shipments exploded a full 56% to 69.4 million units in the first quarter, and further information by the Boston based market research and analysis firm shows that Apple iPhone shipments rose just 6.6% to 37.4 million units.

LG Electronics was third in global smartphone shipments for the first time ever, and with the upcoming launch of the Galaxy S4 4G Android smartphone the future is looking rosy for Samsung.

The company is Asia’s largest technology firm, and the incredible growth of smartphone popularity and sales over the past year has more than made up for a sluggish demand for TVs Samsung has been suffering. Total global smartphone shipments increased dramatically behind adoption of third generation service in China and fourth generation (4G) service in the US according to Strategy Analytics.

Samsung executives sounded like a broken record when they stated that their smartphone growth was pushed dramatically by their Galaxy handset lineup. That is the same story they have been telling for the past several quarters when they announced record profits and receipts for their smartphone division. Neil Mawston is a senior Strategy Analytics analyst, and he stated that Samsung shipped basically two times more smartphones than Apple, while growing nine times faster during the first quarter of 2013.

Whoever said 13 is an unlucky number certainly could not convince Samsung of that. In advance of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 launch, many retailers have drastically discounted the price tags on Galaxy S III smartphones, which has certainly not hurt the global popularity of the arguably the hottest smartphone on the planet over the past six months. The iPhone 6 will probably arrive in 2014, which means Samsung could continue to pull further away from the competition in the smartphone marketplace this year.

This latest Android news is good news for Google and as the momentum is with the Android market and Apple has ‘stalled’ in terms of its growth plans it is looking really good for Google et al. See the original article at Mobile Bloom – what is your view, do you think Samsung might break away from the Android market?
